Mount Merapi is one of the most active and famous volcanoes in Indonesia, located on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta. Standing at approximately 2,930 meters above sea level, Mount Merapi has played an important role in the history, culture, and daily life of the local communities for centuries.
The name “Merapi” comes from the Javanese words Meru (mountain) and Api (fire), meaning “Mountain of Fire.” The volcano is known for its regular eruptions, with major eruptions recorded throughout history. One of the most significant eruptions occurred in 2010, when volcanic ash and hot clouds affected surrounding villages and changed the landscape around the mountain.
Today, the lava trails and former eruption areas have become part of the popular Jeep Adventure experience. Visitors can explore volcanic terrain, see the remains of villages impacted by eruptions, visit the mini museum “Sisa Hartaku,” and witness the incredible power and beauty of nature up close.
Beyond its natural beauty, Mount Merapi is also deeply connected to Javanese culture and spiritual traditions, making it not only an adventure destination but also an important cultural landmark in Indonesia.

Museum Sisa Hartaku (Museum Rumahku)
A small museum created from a house damaged during the 2010 Mount Merapi eruption. Inside, visitors can see melted household items, motorcycles, clocks stopped by the eruption, and personal belongings left behind — serving as a powerful reminder of the disaster and the resilience of local communities.

Batu Alien
A large volcanic rock carried down by Merapi’s eruption that naturally resembles a human face when viewed from certain angles. This unique rock became one of the most famous landmarks on the Merapi Lava Tour and a favorite photo stop for visitors.

Bunker Kaliadem
Originally built as an emergency shelter to protect residents and volcano monitoring officers from volcanic eruptions. During the 2006 eruption, the bunker became widely known after two volunteers were trapped inside due to extreme heat from hot volcanic clouds. Today, it stands as a historical site with breathtaking close-up views of Mount Merapi.

Rumah Mbah Maridjan
The former home of the late Mbah Maridjan, the respected spiritual guardian (Juru Kunci) of Mount Merapi appointed by the Yogyakarta Sultanate. He became nationally known for his loyalty and dedication to protecting local traditions. Mbah Maridjan passed away during the 2010 eruption after refusing to leave the mountain area.

Water Track Adventure
One of the most exciting parts of the Jeep Adventure where visitors ride through rivers, muddy tracks, and splash-filled terrain near the Merapi area. This activity adds adrenaline and fun to the experience, making it especially popular among families and adventure seekers.
