Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport Review: Everything You Need to Know Before You Book

The first thing you notice when you walk out of international arrivals at Ngurah Rai is the wall of humid air and the immediate chorus of taxi touts. The second thing you notice, if you know where to look, is that there’s a hotel literally attached to the airport.

The Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport sits inside the airport compound with direct walkway access to both domestic and international terminals, which makes it probably the most convenient transit hotel on the island.

I’ve stayed here twice now, once at the start of a trip and once on the final night before an early morning flight, and the experience was meaningfully different both times. Here’s the honest picture.

SatuSatu, a Bali travel platform known for curated experiences and seamless transport, is worth checking out once you’re settled and ready to explore.

What Is the Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport?

The Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is a four-star hotel located entirely within the Ngurah Rai International Airport compound in Tuban. It is managed by Accor and operates as part of their global Novotel brand.

The property has 206 rooms across Superior, Executive, and Suite categories. It is the only hotel physically attached to Bali’s international airport, and that single fact explains most of its appeal.

The hotel caters primarily to transit guests, early arrivals, and travellers who want to avoid the stress of a long drive from central Bali on a departure day.

Location and Getting There

This is the simplest location description possible: you are inside the airport. From the international arrivals hall, the hotel can be reached via a covered walkway that takes about five to ten minutes on foot. The same applies in reverse when departing.

Several guests have noted that signage from the arrivals hall is not always obvious, and a few have ended up navigating cement ramps at odd hours, so it’s worth asking airport staff to point you toward the hotel walkway on arrival.

From the hotel, all of Bali’s major tourist destinations are accessible within 30 minutes by car. Kuta Beach is about 15 minutes north, Jimbaran Bay about 15 minutes south, and Seminyak roughly 20 minutes in the right traffic.

Rooms and Stay Experience

The Superior rooms are the standard offering: modern and clean with grey and yellow tones, a flat-screen TV, minibar, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, and free WiFi. Bathrooms include a shower and are well-maintained.

The rooms are soundproofed, which matters because you are, after all, sleeping next to one of Bali’s busiest airports. Noise is generally not a problem inside the rooms. Executive and Suite categories include extra amenities such as access to the Premier lounge, iPod docks, and coffee machines.

The suite category is noticeably more spacious and the added lounge access is a genuine comfort on longer layovers. Rates for a Superior room start from around USD 78 on a typical night, with the best value found on Thursdays and Fridays according to guest booking patterns.

Day-use rooms are available for transit guests who need a few hours to rest, shower, and use the pool between flights, which is a practical and well-priced option.

Food, Drink, and Amenities

The Square Restaurant serves Asian and international dishes with breakfast available from 4:30 AM for early departures. The full breakfast buffet runs from 6:30 AM daily.

The GourmetBar operates 24 hours, serving a la carte local and international food at any time of day or night, which is genuinely useful when arriving on a late-night flight.

The Runaway Rooftop Bar is one of the more memorable features: an open-air bar with views across the runway, the GWK sculpture, and the Jimbaran coastline. Sundowners here are a genuinely nice send-off from Bali.

The outdoor pool is open from 8 AM to 8 PM and is a proper outdoor swim pool, not the cramped courtesy affair some airport hotels offer. The In Balance Spa and fitness centre round out the wellness options. There is also a kids club and games room for families.

Top Highlights

Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport
  1. Walkway access to both terminals: No outside transport needed. Push your airport trolley straight from arrivals to the hotel. This is the defining feature and it genuinely reduces stress.
  2. 24-hour dining at the GourmetBar: Late arrivals and early departures are fully catered for, which is not something every four-star airport hotel can offer.
  3. Soundproofed rooms: Despite being inside an airport compound, the rooms are noticeably quiet, which matters after a long-haul flight.
  4. Run@way Rooftop Bar: A rooftop bar with real runway and ocean views. Worth visiting even just for a drink before your flight.
  5. Day-use room option: Transit guests can book by the hour, which makes a stopover significantly more comfortable.

The Honest Verdict

The Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport does one thing exceptionally well: it removes all transport-related anxiety from your first or last night in Bali. If that is what you need, it is the right choice and worth the rates.

Where it falls short is in terms of signage from arrivals, which has confused more than a few guests, and the English proficiency of some staff, which can make communication occasionally difficult.

The food is reliable rather than exceptional. For a transit stay or a pre-flight final night, this hotel is genuinely excellent. As a base for exploring Bali, it is less convenient simply because Kuta and Seminyak have more direct access to the island’s energy.
